Couples Therapy

Our therapists can help with a wide range of symptoms and problems

At the Austin Mindfulness Center, we help couples explore values, expectations, communication, conflict, and concerns unique to each couple. Our approach promotes satisfying, healthy partnerships that can last and thrive.

Couples Counseling, also referred to as couples’ therapy or marital therapy, is a collaborative form of treatment between you, your partner, and your therapist. Couples counseling involves exploring the fundamental skills and behaviors required to build a resilient partnership with a strong foundation.

Committed relationships are a dance that requires both partners to step together in a synchronized way. Communication and conflict resolution are two fundamental steps in the relationship dance. While most couples struggle with these steps, the couples’ therapist is there to provide education, tools, and guidance to help the couple move forward where they were once stuck in painful and repetitive patterns.

Solid relationships require partners who are emotionally available for ongoing connection and also flexible in response to stress.  The goal of couples therapy is to increase your ability to communicate, which will help you and your partner to provide emotional support for one another. This will allow each partner to express their needs, and to hear and meet the needs of the other.  A relationship that encompasses open communication and the fulfillment of needs means less time spent in conflict and more time spent connecting and enjoying intimacy with your loved one.

Couples seek counseling for a variety of reasons:
  • Communication issues

  • Intimacy problems

  • Infidelity

  • Infertility

  • Parenting issues

  • Finances

  • Unsolvable conflict

  • Past trauma

  • Physical or emotional abuse

  • Considering separation/divorce

Mindfulness-based Therapy

At the Austin Mindfulness Center, we know that you want to gain relief from your current pain so that you can be free to live your best life. It’s difficult to find peace, engage in satisfying relationships, and to pursue your dreams if you are caught up  in depression, anxiety, or relationship conflict. The problem is that these conditions involve a cycle of thoughts, feelings and behavior that tend to become stronger over time without intervention. Combined with the stressors of your external environment, this can leave you feeling depleted and hopeless to change your situation.

Perhaps you’ve gotten to the place where you just aren’t sure how to move forward. When you are caught up in the problems and the stress of life, it is hard to see and understand just what is holding you back.

The good news is that there is relief and there is a path forward for you. We believe that the concepts and the skills related to Mindfulness are the key to both understanding why you are where you are and for learning to change the patterns that got you there. Our approach is not about a quick fix, it’s about learning some fundamental truths about human nature that lead to suffering, and to learn to apply those truths to your life to bring about change and freedom. Our mission is to equip you with the tools that it takes to go beyond this moment of suffering.

We are a team of therapists who have dedicated ourselves to mindfulness both in our own lives and in our work with clients. We have seen the research results that speak to the effectiveness of mindfulness, but more than that we have experienced its transformative power in our own lives. We want to share this with you.
